I made it to the insurance agent's office this afternoon, and, though I'm nearly $600 poorer, I've got a homeowner's policy, and signed up for a new auto policy with State Farm. Now my fiance' and I have to go through the trouble of listing ourselves on eachothers' car titles, so we can save another 15% for a multi-car discount. Then, the policy will also be cheaper after we're married in September. I understand the reasons behind the rules and tables that insurance companies use to determine rates, but it still seems so arbitrary...
Sometime this fall, we're going to hopefully buy a new car. I was thinking today that it'd make a lot of sense to buy one of the FFV vehicles that can run on 85% Ethanol, as well as 10-15% ethanol, and plain old gasoline. Unfortunately, none of the models that currently have this capability are on our list of possibilities, nor is there a public fuel station on this side of the state that sells the gas. The University has a pump with the 85% Ethanol, but it's only for State use, of course. Yet another chicken and the egg problem with alternative fuels, I'd consider a different model if I was able to fuel it up here, but since I'm not able to do so, what's the point?
Sleepless in Cedar Falls
I normally don't have a problem sleeping, but I did last night. I woke up at 2:15 a.m., and couldn't get back to sleep until after 5. I did take the opportunity to update my iBook to Mac OS X 10.1.5, which seems slightly zippier. Then again, my thinking was kind of blurry at 4:00 a.m. when I did it, so it's hard to tell. I tried drinking milk, took some Melatonin, watched some TV (thank goodness for TiVo), and finally drifted off to sleep. Then I managed to oversleep and miss my appointment with the insurance agent for this morning. I've rescheduled for this afternoon, so I can get Homeowner's insurance bought and paid for, in time to close on our house on Monday.
I think it's time to go in search of some caffeine now...
