Umax Sux
Umax is an example of a company that got greedy, and just lost my business. I like their scanners, I've owned two different models at home, and have another one here at work. I've also bought at least 10 others over the last 3 years for use in various offices. I will not buy another one. Here's why: Umax has decided not to offer scanner drivers for download on their web site. So, if you want an updated driver for your scanner, you have to buy it from them on a CD, and wait for it to ship to your house. If their bandwidth costs are so high, why not just raise the price of their scanners $1 to cover it? Why not make the drivers available for instant download after paying a small fee? If I'm helping out a relative with their computer, and I need an updated driver, I don't have time to wait a week for it to arrive via the mail. So, from this point forward, I will only buy scanners from Hewlett-Packard.
Fortunately, the Umax people forgot about the first two-thirds of WWW, you know, the World-Wide-Web? They left the drivers freely available on their European site, so that's good news for those of us who already own Umax scanners.
Shut up Wesley!
Aww, darn it all. They cut Wil Wheaton's scene out of Star Trek: Nemesis. I hope it's on the DVD.
