Kristin's Blog
My assistant, Kristin Brunt, now has her very first weblog up and running. It's on the new Manila server I'm having faculty try out to see if we want to buy it...

Donation
Today, I donated $10 to Tara Sue Grubb, a libertarian candidate for Congress in North Carolina. She's running against Howard Coble, the incumbent Republican who has apparently sold out to Hollywood and the Music Industry, and would like to let them hack our computers if they think we're using our music or movies in a way that they don't approve of, even though it might be legal. Oh, and if they accidentally destroy data that is critical to you, or otherwise harm your computer, you can't sue them.

From the article:
"If you were to take today's episode of 'E.R.' and tape it and give it to your mother, it would be copyright infringement under this bill," said Jessica Litman, a professor at Wayne State University who specializes in copyright law.

I'm a member of the Democratic Party, but even if I was a Republican, I'd think it was time to vote Coble off the island. If you value your rights as a consumer of media, drop some coins in Tara Sue's bucket.

Mark's new house
Mark Dobie has some pictures of his new house on his weblog. Looks nice, needs some new carpet in some rooms, but it'll be a good project for him, and one that I'm sure he'll rope me into helping with from time to time. :)
