Cable Modems vs. DSL

I saw in this story over at News.com that Excite@Home has asked Pacific Bell to yank their ads claiming that cable modem users are "web hogs" and that their DSL technology is better because it isn't "shared". I know that this is a pretty hot topic as broadband becomes available to more and more people, but honestly, how much difference is there? I've got a cable modem at home, and I've never experienced it running slow, in fact, it's faster than our campus Internet connection here at UNI. Any thoughts?

Seth has a brush with greatness...

Since this morning's implementation of the news item feature in Manila, I've switched my site over to this method of posting stuff. So far, I like it, but it's a little less personal, which I don't know if I like yet. Anyhow, it also supports the use of departments and icons for those departments. Since I'm not a graphic artist, and Slashdot has so many cool icons, I e-mailed Rob Malda and asked if I could rip him off. To my delight he replied thusly:
As long as you credit what ya steal, I don't care.
