The athletic director at my alma mater, Iowa State, wants to fire Larry Eustachy, the head basketball coach. This is after some pictures surfaced of Eustachy boozin' it up with some students after a basketball game in Missouri. In the pictures you can see him drinking some really nasty canned beer, and kissing some college chicks on the cheek (who didn't seem to mind). Now, I'm not going to say that it's a great image for ISU's basketball coach to present, or that it isn't embarassing, but it's not something he should be fired for. He & I are both employees of the Iowa Board of Regents, working for two different universities here, but we're part of one system, we're even both Professional & Scientific class employees. (The other two classes being Merit and Faculty) He makes $1 million/year, I make almost $40,000 (I'm not bragging, my salary is a matter of public record, they publish it every year in the Des Moines Register). If tonight I were to go to a party where some college students were, drink a few beers, and smooch some co-ed on the cheek, would I be fired? Hell no. Even if pictures were published on the web, I doubt I'd lose my job. It might be a bit embarassing, I might get a bit of a lecture from my supervisor, who wouldn't be all that happy with me, but it's not something one is generally fired for.

Consider this, if he were a player, it'd be more of a story if he DIDN'T engage in this kind of behavior. Chew him out, get him some counseling, but don't fire the guy. That's my two cents.

Test postingThis is a test posting from w.bloggar, hopefully it will work right, you'll see a song title below, and this will show up in my RSS feed. I'm not holding my breath.

Well, it half-worked, the media plugin worked, but w.bloggar still can't generate the title field so the article appears in my RSS feed, meaning I have to go to Blogger in my web browser and add it manually. Have I mentioned lately that Blogger really sucks at times? They do, especially at times like this, where the problem isn't with w.bloggar, but that Blogger hasn't yet added the Pro features to their API. So, let me get this straight, they let the freeloaders use the API, but not the people who are actually paying them money? Great business minds they have there...

I spent yesterday at the University of Iowa, attending a presentation on how to make OS X Macs work with Microsoft's ActiveDirectory. In short, it's hard. It shouldn't have to be this hard. Let's hope that Microsoft and/or Apple and/or some clever third party can make it a little easier for those of us who don't want to become LDAP architects just to have our machines share a common list of users.

I attempted to grill a steak for my wife last night, but it didn't go so well. We got this new gas grill for our wedding last fall, and I've only used it a few times, for burgers, brats, and hot dogs. Well, I was feeling manly last night, so I told her I'd cook her a steak, though I was just going to toss a couple hot dogs on for myself, as I had some buns I wanted to use up. So, I tossed the steak on the grill, closed the lid, and went inside to get the hot dogs, figuring it'd be a while before it was cooked. I came back out, and noticed an unusually high amount of smoke coming from the inside of the grill, so I lifted the lid to behold a flaming T-Bone of death. Flaming T-Bone makes a good name for a rock band, as well as a nice euphemism for venereal disease, in my opinion. Needless to say, the steak was, shall we say, less than edible? I watched the hot dogs like a hawk, however, and they came out fine. Maybe I'll try again tonight on that steak, I'd better master this art before summer, and before I run out of steaks, as they are a bit expensive to cremating regularly...
