Drought - schmought!

Some drought we're having here in Iowa, we got two and a half inches of rain last night, which is roughly equivalent to how much water is in my basement. My landlord has promised to fix the flooding for the last 10 months, so I'm not holding my breath. My desk is relatively clean! After rearranging some systems, I finally was able to swap out my 17 inch monitor for a 15 inch LCD panel again. I can't survive without two monitors now that I'm used to it. I had to clean my desk once I realized how much junk was on it, but hidden by the big CRT. I'm estimating I have about half an hour before my boss walks in and puts something on my desk that doesn't belong there.

Battery Power

Bored? Watch the corn grow! It must be a slow news day over at News.com, since they've posted this story about the Corn Cam. That's right, you can watch the corn grow right before your eyes! We're running on our UPS systems right now. They're testing the power systems in our building. I estimate we've got at least 30-45 minutes of battery backup before everything fails, they said this should only take 10 minutes, so hopefully it won't be an issue. I rather like working by the light of my monitors, it's somewhat eerie in my office, but it's much easier on the eyes looking at my screen. Now if I can only tune out the beeping of the UPS systems...

Second City

I saw a great show last night at the new Performing Arts Center here at UNI. The Second City comedy troupe from Chicago put on a free show, and it was absolutely hilarious. It's a shame not many people came, for there were only about 60 of us in a performance hall that seats over 1200. The show wasn't advertised at all, I heard about it through word-of-mouth, and it wasn't even listed on UNI's calendar of events. It's a shame that such a talented group of performers got such a lackluster audience. Their improv bits paid the price, most of the audience suggestions they got were too lame to do much with. I've set up a Shoutcast server to broadcast my MP3 collection. This way I can listen to them all at home, as well as at work. Wanna try it out? Use Winamp or some other decent MP3 player, click here, and open the resulting file.
